Do you remember when you got your first library card? I do...vividly. I was in the third grade and I thought I had received the key to heaven. You see, I loved to read and I had no books. I was so awed by all those books in our little town library that I (really,me?) could check out and take home. Pure joy. Those memories and two third grade classes from Tenaya Elementary School make me smile. The students toured our library (and the museum) one day late in May and they were as pleased and excited as I was, way back when. Their attentive behavior and eager responses reflected some fine teaching and a love of books. Oh sure, they ogled the computers and examined the videos, but the books and magazines captured their attention. At the end of their visit, kids with library cards proudly carried out a book and kids without cards clutched an application to take home. Aaah... yes: this may be the most shining example of what libraries are able to do - foster young readers.
FOGL NEWS:
. Groveland Friends will, once again, contribute $10,000.00 to the county library system, for book purchases and for retention of our library hours. Our Book Nook sales allow us to donate this significant amount.
. Library circulation and book sales are up throughout the county.

. Sets of high interest/low reading level books for children will be purchased for circulation in our library. They will be shelved separately with a plaque identifying them as a memorial to Marilyn Bangs for her work with the Booklegger program at Tenaya school.
. Book Nook sales were brisk at the Memorial Day special sale. Recent re-organization of the shelves has facilitated easier access to books. Thanks to all who helped to accomplish this.
. Flyers with information on our library and Book Nook will be given to realtors in our community to include in their rental packets. Thanks to Virginia Gustafson and Carol Heuermann for their work on this project.
REMEMBER:
