John Denver

John Denver

John Denver (center) was a long-time member of the National Space Society's Board of Governors. He had a deep desire to travel in space and a keen interest in its technology. He is shown in this picture talking to test pilots at the Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California. Unfortunately, on October 12, 1997, Denver was killed when the recently purchased Long-EZ aircraft he was piloting crashed just off the coast of California at Pacific Grove, shortly after taking off from the Monterey Peninsula Airport. A pilot with over 2,700 hours of experience, Denver had single-engine land and sea, multi-engine land, glider, and instrument ratings.
